Myths About Hypnosis

Many myths have arisen around hypnosis, often fueled by movies, books, and stage hypnosis, which portray it in an overly dramatic and unrealistic way. Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is neither sleep nor a loss of consciousness – a person under hypnosis remains fully aware of what is happening and never becomes powerless.

Moreover, hypnosis has nothing to do with supernatural or magical phenomena – it is a natural and effective process of working with the subconscious mind on the path to health and harmony.

So, what is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of deep concentration and mindfulness that allows access to the subconscious mind. During a hypnotic trance, we have at least as much, and often even more, control over our body and actions than in a fully conscious state. Although we are more receptive to suggestions in this state, we only accept those that align with our desires and values. At any moment, we can end the hypnosis on our own.

Even if the therapist were to leave and never return, the hypnotic state would end on its own – one cannot "get stuck" in hypnosis. We frequently experience light trance states in everyday life: watching an engaging movie, reading a captivating book, daydreaming, or the moments between wakefulness and sleep just before falling asleep, as well as children deeply immersed in play.

In hypnosis, the patient is consciously guided into a light trance state (so-called hypnotic induction) to bring about desired changes that improve the quality of life. This process is preceded by a detailed interview to ensure the effectiveness and safety of therapy. It is important to emphasize that hypnosis is an officially recognized treatment method.

Over 90% of our thoughts, feelings, and actions are directed by the subconscious, where experiences and information from our entire life are stored. We all know the internal conflict: we want to change something using willpower, but our subconscious resists and sabotages our good intentions. We notice this in everyday situations: despite knowing what is harmful, we almost automatically reach for another piece of cake or a cigarette, as if acting on autopilot.

Knowledge and rational thinking alone are often not enough to change deeply ingrained habits – sometimes, it is nearly impossible. Hypnosis bypasses the critical remarks, doubts, judgments, and fears of the conscious mind, giving us direct access to the subconscious. This allows us to reach the root causes of harmful habits and effectively eliminate them.

Changes that once seemed difficult to achieve start happening naturally and effortlessly. Moreover, in a trance state, it is possible to discover and activate hidden talents and unused potential.
